Programs include psychoeducation for adults, professional development for educators, art classes for youth, basic life skills for teens, adolescent support groups for suicide prevention, community based holistic therapy for youth and families, mentorship programs, and dog therapy is introduced featuring Ceaser, ElRod Center’s 103 lb White German Shepherd. More than 500 Lane County children and families have been impacted at the center so far.
Adults ages 21 and up are invited to the Valley River Inn for a prom-themed night of dancing, casino tables (how is your poker face?), a photo booth and raffle drawing. General admission is tickets are $40 for an individual and $70 for couples. VIP tickets $100 per single or $180 per couples come with champagne, play money for the casino, prom pictures, snacks, special room rate at the Valley River Inn and VIP table seating. Alcohol will also be offered.
The dress suggestions for the dance are 100 percent fun. The title of the dance, “Empathy Under the Sea,” points to the center’s mission to promote empathy and understanding for youth. Following the tradition of High School Prom, ElRod will hold a prom court to highlight princesses, princes and a Prom Queen and King will be crowned and given a chance to be recognized for strongly supporting the center in its beginning months.
ElRod Center is changing mental health from reactive to preventative, with a focus on increasing the emotional intelligence of children and adolescents. If resiliency, coping skills, and self-worth can be instilled in youth before they encounter life’s stressors, the resulting effects may not result in mental illness. This Inaugural Adult Prom will fund the current programs for a full year as well as support implementation of remaining programs during that time. All money raised goes straight to the programs since there is no paid staff. Can’t wait to see you there!
