Memorial Golf Tournament to Benefit the ALS Association

August 10 @ 7:30 am

The 3rd Annual ALS Shootout Golf Tournament will take place August 10th at Golf Club of Oregon, located at 905 NW Springhill Drive in Albany, Oregon. Registration open at 7:30 am, shotgun start at 8:00 am.   The tournament includes a $10,000 hole in one sponsored by Coastal and a Bad Boy Buggy Hole in One sponsored by South Pacific Auto Sales. Lunch, prizes and raffles will also be provided, including a guided fishing trip, a stay at Eagle Crest Resort, a Green Mountain Grill, Beaver Football Tickets and more. This fundraiser for The ALS Association is held in memory of Kirk Hendrickson and Mike Cunningham.
Kirk and Mike were both actively involved in the community, dedicating most of their adults lives to coaching youth sports. Both were afflicted by Lou Gehrig’s Disease, also known as ALS, and taken by the disease much too early in life.
Kirk Hendrickson
Kirk Hendrickson spent his entire adult life pursuing two worthy causes – advocating for people with disabilities and coaching youth sports. Kirk grew up in Oakridge, Oregon and attended Oregon College of Education, where he was a dual athlete in football and baseball. He and Diana Koffler were married in 1971; they had three children and one foster child – Heather, Josh, Luke, and LeRoy. Kirk loved spending time with his grandchildren, and they adored him. Kirk was diagnosed with ALS in 2014 and passed away in May 2016. The impact he had on the youth he coached, the people with disabilities he worked with, and the employees he mentored can never be fully appreciated.
Mike Cunningham
Mike Cunningham was a teacher and football, wrestling, and track coach at West Albany High School. He married his wife, Janelle, in 1987 and had two daughters, Jenna and Ashton. Mike graduated from West Albany in 1986 and Oregon State, where he played football, in 1991. He battled ALS for seven years before passing away in 2005. Mike lived his life with the motto “Whatever Is Necessary;” his fight was an inspiration to everyone who knew him.
ALS is a fatal disease, more common in middle-aged men than any other demographic group. The life expectancy of a person with ALS is typically 2-5 years from diagnosis.
All proceeds from the ALS Shootout golf tournament will be donated to the ALS Association, a non-profit leading the way in global research care services for people with ALS, public education and public policy. The past two years the tournament has raised over $30,000.
This event is sponsored by Coastal and Lunch is provided by The Oregon BBQ Company. Other sponsors include The Pendley Group, Subway, South Pacific Auto Sales, Chris Scariano at Edward Jones, Carcraft Aggregate Resource Industries Inc, Sign Express, Pape, and Corvallis Clinic.
